History is Our Story

Scrapbook

The Ferndale Museum, through the efforts of its staff and dozens of volunteers, is dedicated to presenting programs that educate, entertain, and inspire our community to embrace and preserve its rich, unique history. In the past year some of our most successful events have been "Who Was Who," a dramatized tour of the Ferndale Cemetery; a presentation of pioneer Seth Kinman’s buckskins and violin to the Museum by his great-grandchildren; and several showings of the Museum’s original movies, including "Letters from Home," "Walking the Wildcat," "Home on the Grange," "The Cameo Fair," and "The Lost Village of Camp Weeott."

We are always eager to welcome new ideas and new volunteers to help plan and implement our events and programs. To be part of the fun, give us a call at 707-786-4466 or drop us a line at Museum@Ferndale-Museum.org.

Marie Boynton, Ferndale Museum's Volunteer of the Year, 2011Congratulations to Marie Boynton, named Ferndale Museum's Volunteer of the Year, 2011, at the annual luncheon honoring all volunteers, December 15 at the Ferndale City Hall. Past Volunteers of the Year and Life Members were honored in a special video (which we hope to post soon). Every year we are happy to host this special event to honor and appreciate patron level members of the Museum, business sponsors of our newsletter "Our Story," and all the dedicated people who have made the Museum's success possible!

On an afternoon in April a group from Christian Home Education had a guided tour, and really enjoyed the Museum. They entertained us, playing the piano, and one young fellow even danced the Charleston!

Fall 2010 Home Tour

Huzzahs! all around to the gracious homeowners and tremendous volunteers who presented a September 26, 2010, Home Tour. It was a stunning success. Here are a few of Kirk Gothier's photos ... you can do the captions. We were tickled he caught the circular contrail above Berding.

Who Was Who: A Walk through The Ferndale Cemetery

Sunday, July 18, 2010, costumed actors guided more than 50 guests through the Ferndale Cemetery, relating the stories of Ferndale’s early settlers, local Native Americans, drowning victims, Confederate soldiers, victims of crimes of passion, and members of the Hindley, Francis, and Christiansen families.

Thanks to all the Museum volunteers who made this such a special event, especially Ann Roberts and Marji Smith, who tirelessly researched story material.
